Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters

Abu Dhabi Police has gone along the same road of development. Having been established as a small guard force with simple duties, it started to grow and take shape under the rule of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Under the direct leadership of H.H. Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Abu Dhabi Police has witnessed phenomenal leaps, entering an era of qualitative and strategic transformation. His Highness launched a radical process of qualitative development of the concept and performance of the police force to ensure distinction across all divisions and departments of Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. The process involved the development and qualification of national cadres on par with the world’s highest standards to ensure security and stability across the UAE.

Abu Dhabi Police Music Band, a success story

Abu Dhabi Police Music Band was established in 1963. One of the oldest functions of Abu Dhabi Police, the Band started with 50 musicians and received considerable support from the police leadership. In early 1967, a new section was established to teach new musicians the music notes which improved their skills.

At that time, the Band used to play only in military graduation ceremonies and official parades and protocol events.
However, with the exceptional development of the UAE in every field of life, the Band continued to receive unlimited support from H.H. Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, which enabled it to add new musicians and modern instruments. Partnerships were also made with specialized musical institutes to develop the efficiency of players.

Another leap in its development was when it was restructured to include three musical bands:

1- The Military Band
2- The Heritage Bank
3- The Classical Band

The new structure reflects the needs of the UAE community where some 200 nationalities live in harmony, blending and interacting harmoniously to give the UAE community its unique character. To reflect this diversity, the three bands present national, Arabian and international music, participating in some 300 musical event every year covering all events and sectors of society.

The Band has been a UAE ambassador in several international music festivals like London International Music Festival in 1975 and the Festival in Germany in 2002 where the Band shared with some of the world’s best bands from Spain, Brazil, USA and others.

With the ongoing development of the UAE at all fronts, Abu Dhabi Police Music Band continued to develop its staff through expertise sharing and overseas visits to peer bands in several countries including Italy, Russia, Switzerland, France and Germany.

Today, as we stand here with you in Malta Festival, we are glad to talk to you in the language of music, which unites all the peoples of this world, and to introduce you to the music of the UAE.
