Information about the Event

The Malta Comic Con (MCC) is a 2 day event that celebrates comics, their creators, comic books, books, movies, TV series, tabletop games, video games, role playing games, cosplaying and virtually anything that is related to the comic culture and pop culture. The MCC is both entertaining and educational and on both days there will be material specifically intended for children and a mature audience.

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Malta Comic Convention.  Since 2009 it has been organised annully by the registered voluntary organisation Wicked Comics.  During the comic con, attendants will have the chance to meet with various illustrators, writers, actors, prop makers, artisans, publishers and cosplayers.  These incorporate some of the leading artists from Malta as well as high number of professional guests brought from abroad specifically for the convention. Besides working on comics which include all the popular characters such as Transformers, Spider-man, G.I.JOE, Batman, X-Men, Judge Dredd, Slaine, Star Wars, Doctor Who, TNMT, Warhammer 40k as well as countless other creator owned projects, most of these guests have also worked on popular films and advert campaigns. During the convention both the local creators and the foreign guests will be happy to meet and chat with their fans, sketch and draw for them and sell and sign their work.

Highlights include:

Mark Ryan (actor) whose extensive career in the movie and theatre industry includes Black Sails, Robin of Sherwood, Evita, providing the voice of Bumblebee in Transformers and swordmaster and Fight Director on King Arthur, Brian Ian Muir who has worked on more than 70 major movies and is renowned for his work on Star Wars which includes sculpting Darth Vader and the Storm Trooper armour,

Chris Achilleos (illustrator) known for his fantasy artwork and his work on movies such as Willow, King Arthur and The Last Legion, Jeff Richard Creative Director of games company Chaosium and lead author on a vast number of publications.

Laura Howell, the first female illustrator to work on Beano and who has worked on popular titles such as Mad Magazine, Angry Birds and Regular Show.

A number of exciting activities will also be happening during the show, which include combat demonstrations, various Japanese Culture appreciation activities, illustration and cosplay workshops,

Specific workshop for kids aged 5-10 where they will become superheroes by crafting their own costumes and coming up with their
superhero name and powers.

Book Launch – As part of the 10th Anniversary of the Malta Comic Con celebrations, the launch of the book published by Heritage Malta titled Impression of an Island – A Malta Comic Con Artbook, featuring the interpretation of Maltese Heritage by past and present Malta Comic Con guests and exhibitors.

During the convention one can meet various cosplayers; people dressed in costumes of the favourite characters most of which are handcrafted by those wearing them. Besides roaming around some of them will also take part in the annual Malta Cosplay Competition which is always a highlight of the convention. People are encouraged to come in their own costumes and on both days there will be a professional photographer taking photos. Gaming is another element which will be well covered during the convention, with a variety of table top and role playing clubs running different games throughout both days. Attendants can also play modern and retro video games on several popular platforms, experience virtual reality gaming and participate in escape room challenges and in the sword fighting arena hosted by M.E.R.C.S. Malta. Punters can also attend and participate in a variety of workshops, talks and discussion panels covering various aspects of pop culture which will be both informative and entertaining. There will also be themed dance routines, models, toys, figures, video games and swords and armoury exhibitions and numerous foreign and local retail stands offering a wide range of pop culture goods and collectables. In other words there will be something fun for everyone.
