Dec 2015 - CHOGM Car Audiction

The fleet of 75 Volvo vehicles  used during the Valletta Summit and CHOGM to ferry dignitaries during the meetings, have all been sold this morning in an auction at the MFCC in Ta' Qali. President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca said the Malta Community Chest Fund has benefited from this auction to the tune of a provisional sum of 390,000 euro.

A similar auction had taken place in a previous CHOGM held in Malta ten years ago, when the vehicles had also been auctioned with part of the income going to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

The auction proceedings were broadcast direct on Television Malta at 10.00 a.m. and half of the vehicles had already been sold in just over an hour, with prices ranging between 32,500 and 37,500 euro. Four different models of Volvo vehicles were on offer, with market prices varying between 41,000 and 44,500 euro. A last-minute decision by the local agents, GasanZammit, led to eight Volvo S60 vehicles being sold at 28,000 euro instead of at the already reduced price of 32,500 euro.

Bidders at the auction were also informed which of the 120 heads of state in Malta for the meetings had been driven around in the particular vehicle they were bidding on.
