MFCC twins with Modica fair
MFCC, via the Malta Trade Fair, twinned with the Modica Fiera della Contea. The scope of this twinning is to provide a platform for Maltese enterprises to promote their products to the Sicilian consumer and vice versa. Local businesses, earlier this month, participated in the Modica Fair, and now Sicilian enterprises will be given the same opportunity. The city of Modica, has a stand at the Malta Trade Fair. The stand will exhibit electrical equipment, marble works, bed linen and foodstuffs including; Modica chocolate, honey, torrone, biscuits, liquors, preserves in jars, oil, cheese, salamis, jams, dried fruit and more.
This Modica partnership is also providing an exceptional musical act - Antonio Modica and the Mohac Music Machine. This 15 element band will perform daily at the Malta Trade Fair. Antonio Modica, the founder, was born in Ragusa on the 19th of November 1977. In 1995, then 18 years old, he took off to New York City to learn about the musical variations of American Blues and Rock.
On his return to Ragusa he launched himself in the Alternative American Rock genre. He was given opportunities of open concerts of famous bands such as Nomadi and Elisa. In 1999, in Bologna, he won the National Prize of Palapilastro Music, with the group Insula Kabrera and two of his songs.
In the summer of 2004 he put together the musical group Mohac Music Machine, which is a big band consisting of 15 elements. Today they are the most popular band in the South of Sicily.
In January 2006 they placed third in the Sanremo Ariston Theatre, surpassing 1300 entries from all over Italy, in the contest Una voce per Sanremo. In October, of the same year, they won the Premio Mia Martini, which is televised on Rai Due. After that Antonio was guest in a number of TV programmes including RAI Uno with Carlo Conti, L’Ottovolante on Radio2 and many others. In the Summer of 2007 they toured Italy, France and Spain. In February 2008 the CD, Dedicato a Te, was released in a limited edition version, this was directly commissioned by the International Entrepreneur Philippe Matignon. In December 2009 the CD Fantasia was realised.
Antonio Modica and the Mohac Music Machine will give daily performances at the Malta Trade Fair 2010.
Tut around the world
Tut around the world is a walk through exhibition featuring a replica of the Tutankhamun Tomb.
The most famous Egyptian pharaoh today is, without doubt, Tutankhamun. The boy king died in his late teens and remained at rest in Egypt's Valley of the Kings for over 3,300 years.
All that changed in November 1922, when Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered by the British Egyptologist Howard Carter who was excavating on behalf of his patron Lord Carnarvon. His tomb almost escaped discovery and could have been undiscovered to this day.
Carter had been searching for the tomb for a number of years and Carnarvon had decided that enough time and money had been expended with little return. However, Carter managed to persuade his patron to fund one more season and within days of resuming the search, the tomb was found.
The original tomb, when compared to other Egyptian tombs, is small and appears to have been destined for someone of lesser importance. Tutankhamun's unexpected early demise saw the tomb's rushed modification to accommodate the pharaoh.
In this walk through exhibition, which is a replica of the tomb, the visitor will first see a 5 minute DVD which tells the story of King Tutankhamen. After watching the film, visitors walk via the Rams ramp begin their visit to the burial chamber. After the completion of the burial chamber, they enter the second chamber to appreciate the replicas of artifacts found in the original tomb, guided by both audio and display explanations of each piece. This experience is not to be missed by anyone keen to learn more about Egyptology, and certainly is an interesting cultural and educational experience for all.
